Measurement guide

A few measurements taken before you order will save a return later.

Measuring a doorway

Measure the opening itself, not the frame: the narrowest point between the stops, and the height from the finished floor to the top of the opening. If the door lifts off its hinges, measure again without it.

Hallways, corners and stairs

Measure the narrowest point of the hallway. At a corner the piece has to swing, so the space needs to take its longest side. On stairs, check the width between railings and the clearance at the tightest turn.

Measuring the room

Mark the footprint of the piece on the floor with tape before ordering. Leave walkway clearance around it, and check that drawers, doors and reclining mechanisms have room to open.

Use the Will It Fit tool

The Will It Fit guide on our homepage compares the measurements you enter against a product's dimensions.
